Connected Neighbourhoods Trust (CNT) manages two community facilities on behalf of Auckland Council – The Sunderland Lounge and Headquarters Building. These are available for hire everyday, from 7am to 10pm. Both venues can be booked online (96 hrs in advance, or otherwise through our Venues Team). Discounts are available to community groups and events.

Headquarters Building (Te Mahere)

The 1930’s art deco RNZAF Headquarters Building has been beautifully refurbished and re-purposed as a community facility.

This acts as the community hub for Hobsonville Point and adjoins the Headquarters Park and Playground.

There are six rooms ranging from a large room accommodating up to 50 through to a relaxing lounge, and four meeting spaces of varying sizes. 

All spaces have heat pumps and air conditioning, free WiFi and free car parking (both on and off-street).

Sunderland Lounge (Te Rere)

The Sunderland Lounge was built in the late 1940s and was initially used as the airbase’s cinema. It sits directly across from the Headquarters Building, Park & Playground.

The Sunderland Lounge has a large community hall (seating up to 230) and two other community spaces. The hall has amazing acoustics with modern AV, lighting and staging available for hire. All spaces have heat pumps and air conditioning, free WiFi and free car parking (both on and off-street).

The maximum capacity of the Sunderland Lounge across all hirers/rooms is 374 due to fire safety ratings and is suitable for large community events.

Additional information

Minimum booking time is 1 hour. Hire can then increase in 15 minute increments.

Online bookings can only be made at least 96 hours in advance. Otherwise bookings need to be made via email ([email protected]) and will only be responded to during office hours. Weekend access is not possible if bookings have not been confirmed by Thursday 3pm.

NB: During Public Holidays and Summer holidays you will need to book further in advance due to office being closed. 

All bookings must include time for setup, arrival meet & greet, packdown and cleaning.

All hirers must leave venue in clean condition, ready for the next hirer (includes sweep/vacuum).

All rubbish must be removed by the hirer (NB: this still applies even if you have booked commercial cleaning as they do not remove rubbish)

There is a discount for not-for-profit community groups of 40%. These must be registered charities or not provide any financial benefit to those involved.

A 20% discount is available to all day, weekly bookings (8hrs) that occur at least 2 days per week or for long block bookings (multi-days, 8hrs or more).

Special community events/initiatives that contribute directly to targeted community outcomes may be eligible for additional discounting. This is on a case by case basis.

Regular Hirer slots must be cancelled 30 days in advance.

Alcohol is not allowed for private parties unless an exemption is granted and additional bond of $500 is paid. Exemptions will not be granted for 18ths, 21sts, or 40ths. Intoxication is not allowed by any persons in our venue.

Alcohol requests for all other functions, meetings, regular hire, and events are subject to Venues Team approval and additional bonds and charges may apply. This is also subject to the hirer meeting the conditions of hire in relation to alcohol. Details can be found in our Venue Hire Conditions Document.

If you are considering serving alcohol or having BYO alcohol at your event, you must first discuss this with the Waitemata Alcohol Harm Prevention Unit, New Zealand Police via email ([email protected]).

The Hobsonville Point Ferry is a short 5-10 minute walk (or 1 min bus ride) from both community venues and goes to Auckland City and Beachhaven ferry terminals. It runs 7 days a week.

The bus stops within 1 min walk of both venues and you can easily get to Greenhithe, North Shore, Westgate and the CBD by bus.

23 dedicated car parking spaces (no charge) serve both any hirers of both community venues but can only be used during your booking period.

Free street parking can be found in surrounding streets including Launch Road, Buckley Avenue, Cinema Road, Hobsonville Point Road, and Marine Parade. Please be careful not to block driveways.

Our Location

The Headquarters Building and Sunderland Lounge are located in the heart of Hobsonville Point, just a few minutes walk via the coastal walkway to the beautiful Catalina Bay waterfront complete with a range of cafes, restaurants and markets. The two venues are just 200m apart, linked by a lovely park. The venues share dedicated car parking (23 spaces) on Cinema Road and a range of free street parking options.

Our Venues Team office hours are Monday/Tuesday 8.30am to 3.30pm and Wednesday/Thursday 8.30am to 4.30pm however the venues are available for hire from 7am to 10pm, 7 days a week.
