Whenuapai area community Emergency Response Group

The Whenuapai Area Community Emergency Response Group is a volunteer group preparing for, responding to, and recovering from emergencies affecting our local area. It is currently in its early stages of developing a Lead Team, coordinated by Connected Neighbourhoods Trust, that will meet regularly and assess if the group will stand up in an emergency affecting our area.

During an emergency, the Lead Team may need help from volunteers from across the community to help set up a community hub/shelter or to respond to other needs.

Let's Get Prepared

The Whenuapai Area Community Emergency Response Group is currently developing a quick reference document for households in Whenuapai to help you know where to turn to for help in an emergency. In the meantime, there is already one that we have developed for Hobsonville and you can download this below.

Emergencies can happen anytime, anywhere, and often without warning. It is important to make emergency plans so you know what to do when an emergency happens.

Visit getready.govt.nz to work out your household plan.

The Upper Harbour Local Board has developed a plan with more detailed information for our area for a range of hazards. This is available through the link below and is available in hard copy from Connected Neighbourhoods Trust as well on request or at many of our community events

Location of Local Community Hub/Shelter

In the event of an emergency, the Whenuapai, Herald Island or Hobsonville Emergency Response Group may decide to open a community emergency hub/shelter. This will depend on a number of factors, including the assessed need, availability of volunteers, safety of the site etc.

The Herald Island Community Hall and the Headquarters Building and Sunderland Lounge are the most likely locations to be our local community hub/shelter should we open however please visit our Whenuapai Area Emergency Response Group Facebook page here for latest updates. The list of current emergency shelters/hubs/Civil Defence Centres can be found on Auckland Emergency Management’s website during an emergency.
